Following on from my earlier post regarding the record attempt on the Bonneville salt flats, here’s the article itself. From the December 1959 issue of Motor trend magazine.
The Borgward set the Bonneville National Class E Touring Sports record, with an average speed of 93.560 mph. It’s top speed for a single run was 97.139 mph (156.3 kmph).
To be fair, it was the first year for the class, and Class E was for engine 1.3 to 2.0 and the car had to have an adult backs seat (no jump seats) -meaning the Borgward was at he lo end of the class range.
Not too bad for a car with no serious modifications and straight off the shop floor!
